NYS Fair’s unhealthiest foods: Try these heart-stopping, gut-busting delights

The New York State Fair comes only once a year, and our doctors are glad for that. There’s a wide range of foods at the NYS Fair, but if you want to indulge on some gut-busting, artery-clogging, heart-stopping delights that will raise your cholesterol and stretch out your pants, then we’ve got the treats for you. Try these extra-fattening, deep-fried, cheese-smothered and bacon-dipped unhealthy foods if you dare.

The Sudden Death at Fried Specialties.

Sudden Death

Food item: Sudden Death at Fried Specialties

Location: 3 locations, including Midway and Restaurant Row

Price: $13

Description: Want a burger that dares the grim reaper? Two beef patties stuffed with mac & cheese, pork belly and topped with a bacon bun — all deep-fried, with a cup of cheddar for dipping. Essentially, the bun is bacon and beef (no bread), with mac and cheese in the middle, making a crunchy, cheesy last will and testament. It’s easily “the most extreme” NYS Fair food of 2019.

TwinX at Fried Specialties, NYS Fair 2019

TwinX

Food item: TwinX at Fried Specialties

Location: 3 locations, including Midway and Restaurant Row

Price: $5

Description: Of course, Fried Specialties is still best-known for its deep-fried concoctions — including their “you bring it, we fry it” motto for adventurous eaters — and the most heart-pounding may be the TwinX, a warm Twinkie stuffed with Twix, wrapped in bacon, deep-fried and covered in powdered sugar and chocolate drizzle. It’s a warm and gooey sugar rush that you shouldn’t eat more than once a year, but it’s so good.

Food item: Heart attack burger at Country Corner

Location: The Eatery (formerly International Building)

Price: $10

Description: The heart attack burger isn’t overly complicated, as far as gutbusters go, but it fulfills the “stuff on top of other stuff” criteria. Two burger patties, smothered in cheese, topped with bacon with a heap of hot mac & cheese on top. If you like burgers and mac & cheese individually, there’s absolutely nothing you won’t love about the heart attack burger.

Location: The Eatery (formerly International Building)

Price: $8.50

Description: The Pig & The Potato, the home of the pulled pork parfait, also offers this option for pigging out on a pulled pork version of Frito Pie. Basically, it’s sweet pulled pork over Frito chips, smothered in cheeses with a hearty dollop of sour cream. And if you’re worried it won’t slow your heart rate, then feel free to add some “oink” sauce, mild or hot.

Cake N Bacon at Nathan’s, NYS Fair 2019

Cake N Bacon

Food item: Cake N Bacon at Nathan’s

Location: Midway, by the Expo Center

Description: Frozen cheesecake, dipped in chocolate and covered in warm bacon bits — all on a stick, OMG! — combine for a salty and sweet concoction that’s easy to eat on the go. (We recommend walking around the fairgrounds while and after eating to burn off as many calories as possible.) Nathan’s also offers funnel fingers, chocolate-covered strawberry waffle bombs and “The Ripper” (a deep-fried Nathan’s Coney hot dog topped with sweet relish).
