New initiative providing better access to healthy, local foods to families in need

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) — For many Kentucky families putting healthy food on the table is a daily struggle. But a new program called “Kentucky Double Dollars” is helping families receiving federal food and nutrition benefits stretch that money even further.

The program is available at select farmer’s markets, retailers and fresh stop markets across the state.

As the name would suggest, Kentucky Double Dollars doubles benefits for families receiving SNAP and WIC.

Good Foods Co Op is one of the only brick and mortar locations where shoppers can receive double dollars. Customers can double up to $10 per customer, per day on Kentucky grown fruits and vegetables with a qualifying snap purchase.
