Travelling with her kids to sporting events around the country, Heather Bowers would seek out a healthy food option on the road.

Now the Marlborough mother is bringing that option to Blenheim.

Bowers, a year 7 teacher at Bohally Intermediate, has handed in her notice and plans to open a Pita Pit store in Blenheim by August.

The popular chain, known for its customised salads and pitas, will replace Cafe 5081 on Main St.

Bowers, who was previously the Weight Watchers leader in Blenheim, said Pita Pit fitted well with her philosophy about a healthy lifestyle.

Her children played a lot of tennis and gymnastics and the family often travelled for competitions.

“We found that the only options that were really healthy and pleased the whole family were Pita Pits, so we would visit them all over the country while we were travelling.

“I literally woke up one night and said why don’t we bring a Pita Pit to Blenheim.”

Cafe 5081 will close its doors on Tuesday after two years of service. Bowers was waiting for their building consent to be approved before they remodelled the building.

“We’re really excited to bring this healthy option to Blenheim. We’re over the moon about it, we think there’s a real need for it,” Bowers said.

“I have a real passion for healthy lifestyle and I think Pita Pit fits really well into my own philosophy about lifestyle and healthy choices.

“We will hopefully be open late July-August time frame, all fingers crossed.”
