Mandy Moore has basically stuck to the same hairstyle for a couple of years now, and I don’t blame her. The wavy, medium-length look is gorgeous, whether it’s noticeably highlighted or a more solid brunette shade. And besides, she gets to temporarily change up her hair on This Is Us all time, which probably scratches any itches she may have to switch her style — or maybe not. Moore just revealed that she not only updated her hair color, she got a pretty dramatic cut to go with it.
According to an email from Garnier representatives, Moore upgraded her already-lovely brown hue with an even richer shade of golden brown — specifically the Garnier Nutrisse Nourishing Color Creme in shade 53 (Chestnut). But with the help of the brand’s consulting stylist Ashley Streicher, Moore took her updated look to the next level by chopping off several inches of hair into a super-chic bob.
Streicher did an incredible job making the new cut work with Moore’s thick waves, and Garnier broke down exactly how she did it, starting with Pure Clean Air Dry + Detangler on Moore’s damp, just-washed-and-conditioned hair. Streicher then parted her hair directly down the middle and combed it straight. Starting at the nape of the neck, she combed hair apart evenly on each side in clean sections.
That’s when the scissors came out. Streicher cut straight across from the center, so Moore’s hair would be just a bit longer toward the front. Next, she combed the hair in front of the ears slightly back and cut straight towards the back of the head. She then combed her hair down so that it fell naturally, allowing her to cut straight toward Moore’s face, maintaining that slightly-longer look in the front.
To style the new cut, Streicher applied a bit of Smooth Blow Dry Anti-Frizz Cream throughout Moore’s damp hair and used a small round brush to create volume while blow-drying. She gave her dry hair a few more snips, cutting small pieces in vertical sections to give the bluntness more movement and shape. At that point, she just applied some Root Amp Root Lifting Spray Mousse to her roots and a bit of Sleek & Shine Anti-Humidity Hairspray.
Streicher shared the results on Instagram, and fans understandably love the new look. “I’m in love with this cut😍 it’s making me want to chop my hair off & get a cut like this 💕,” said one of several commenters who said they want to get a bob now. Another wrote, “My fav Mandy look everrr.” But one commenter said exactly what I was thinking: “Beautiful. I’m not sure there’s a style she wouldn’t look beautiful with, though.”
