From hair loss to dandruff, DIY hair oils that will make everyday a good hair day

Whip up these easy oil concoctions for silky hair and beat all those annoying hair problems instantly!

For most girls, their hair is a matter of their pride and honour. That’s why they say that when it’s a good hair day, all is right in the world. If only we were born with Rapunzel like luscious locks! Unfortunately while we can’t wish fairytales were real, we can do our best to maintain our mane.

Oils are one such ingredient that improve the quality of hair by acting like a natural conditioner while solving a plethora of other problems like hairfall, breakage, premature greying, etc.

While it is always easy to pick out oils from the store, there is nothing like home-made customised oils that you can whip up, just for your hair problem. Take a look at some of the oils you can create yourself for different hair problems.

Hair Loss

One of the biggest problems that almost everybody faces at some point in life, can be dealt with, with homemade oils. Amla is your best bet to deal with this problem. Use this twice a week for best results.

For this oil, you will need:

1 cup coconut oil

100g amla powder

4 litres water

Method:

In boiling water add around 70g amla powder and keep stirring till this becomes ¼ of its original quantity. Set it aside to cool.

Once cooled, use a cloth to strain the water.

In another bowl, add some water and the rest of the powder and mix to form a thick paste.

Add the coconut oil to the paste and add them both to the alma decoction.

Boil this mixture until all the water evaporates and you are only left with amla powder and oil.

Use 2 spoons on your hair and store the rest for later.

Massage the mixture into your scalp and leave for an hour.

Wash the hair and let it air dry.

Premature greying

Constant exposure to the sun, stress, pollution, etc. can cause the hair to turn grey prematurely. Use this mixture of curry leaves and oil twice a week, to reverse premature greying.

For this oil, you will need:

2 spoons coconut oil (natural or cold pressed)

curry leaves

Method:

Pour the coconut oil and curry leaves in a pan and heat it until a black residue starts to form around the curry leaves.

Set aside to cool.

Once it has cooled, strain the oil and apply to hair and scalp and leave it on for an hour.

Wash off and let it air dry.

Hair breakage

One of the most common reasons for hair breakage is bad blood circulation to the scalp. To regrow healthy hair, hibiscus oil is your best choice and very easy to make. For best results, use this 3 times a week.

For this oil, you will need:

100ml olive or coconut oil

5 hibiscus flowers and leaves

Method:

Crush the flowers and leaves to form a smooth pulp.

Heat the oil in a pan and add the crushed mixture. Let it boil until it starts to fume.

Strain this and set it aside to cool.

Massage 2 spoons into your hair and leave on for an hour before washing with a mild shampoo.

Dandruff

One of the most common problems, dandruff can lead to itchiness of the scalp and also flaking. A citrus hair oil makes for the perfect remedy for this problem. Apply twice a week for best results.
