Don't Shampoo in 2019, Because Hairbands & Bows Will Salvage Dirty Hair Days

Everyone seems to be waking up to the fact that too much shampoo is not a good idea. While soapy shampoos are being contemplated–dry shampoo options have increased, and ideas of cool hairstyles have changed to the point that we’ve gone from frizzy and voluminous ‘80s style hair to Kim Kardashian’s borderline-oily and flat locks. As a result, the world of hair accessories has also changed. Bows and hairbands have made a comeback.

Always considered very doll-like and cutesy, these accessories have now become a great accompaniment to the no-‘poo trend. Be it runways or in reality–these childhood staples have taken over accessory shelves.

It’s a legit high-fashion trend seen in print campaigns and on runways

Miu Miu’s latest editorial campaign for Spring Summer 2019 features plenty of bejewelled, crystal-studded headbands. Some are delicately sparkly, others feature silk ribbon bows–though all of them scream Paris Hilton-esque girly glamour. Who will ever find out that you didn’t shampoo your mane when THAT’S on your head?

Miu Miu’s mother brand, Prada’s Spring Summer ’19 runway collection also saw loads of headbands, albeit of a more high-fashion kind. Crafted with foam cushioning, these broad silken accessories were an edgy take on a tried trend. Wide and thick, these were just what you need on a bad hair day!

The king of luxe, Givenchy ALSO featured a queen-worthy headband on its SS ’19 runway–even though it could have been mistaken for a tiara. The hair it was paired with? Sleek and flat!

Brands like Alexander Wang even made the bandana headband come back, proving that messy hair really is in!

Back home, Tarun Tahiliani’s editorial campaign for his 2018 Fall Winter collection also featured a throwback to the ‘60s and ‘70s with a couple of big and colourful headbands.

All the cool celebrities are wearing it

This trend isn’t just a runway phenomenon. All the celebrities who make it their business to be at their fashionable best have pretty much endorsed it.

To promote her latest film, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, Sonam Kapoor sported a black ribbon-style band, something all of us can try without having to shell out a ton of money.

Queen of comfy cool, Kareena Kapoor Khan was also spotted vacationing with a bright yellow headband to keep her beachy waves off her face and show off her sunnies!

However, the real queen of this trend, however, is Chrissy Teigen–who made it her job to not only sport a fun bow-style headband on the red carpet or at events; rather, she took it one step further and featured in an ad campaign with the glamorous accessory for her Becca collaboration!

Clearly not in the mood to let go of this cutesy yet practical trend, A-listers like Nicole Kidman, Riverdale’s ‘Betty Cooper’ Lili Reinhart, and even Jessica Chastain opted for ribbons and bows to secure messy and potentially dirty hair!
